Musical Theatre
Dramaturgy
Script support to get your musical to the next stage.
I work with writers or writing teams in order to find clarity in your storytelling, highlight and enhance the specificity of your world, and make the most out of your song moments.
I have worked in musical theatre for more than ten years and have worked on over 50 musicals as a writer or dramaturg. I was most recently commissioned to write a musical about mental health and teenagers which just completed a workshop in Chicago. I am also the co-founder of Chalk Musical Theatre Dramaturgy.
In addition to musical theatre, I work as a comedy dramaturg. Click here to learn more.

Testimonials
"Your feedback has been the most specific, interesting and focused we have received in the 8 years we have been working on this project. I know it's going to change how we think about characters -- their journeys and what gets them motivated. I love the questions you pose throughout as well... so helpful."
- Spencer Williams (Writer, For Tonight)
"I could not have imagined someone more brilliant, skilled and sensitive. Deborah’s content-rich and specific notes were a priceless guide in the rewriting of my first musical comedy. Her clear organization, great ideas, gentleness and encouragement were priceless to me and my process. Deborah truly cares, and her goodwill is matched by her knowledge and professionalism. Thanks to my work with her (and a fabulous cast and crew), A Coveted Wife of East Van garnered great reviews and sold-out stages. I will continue to work with Deborah and recommend her full-heartedly to playwrights seeking support in their processes."
- Marn Norwich (Writer, A Coveted Wife of East Van)
“Thank you for your superb script report. The comments are insightful and extremely well thought out. You got to the heart of the matter and have given a brilliant overview of the work still to be done. To have access to such professional feedback is invaluable. The report has left us inspired and excited to see where the next draft takes us. Thank you.”
- Deborah Gerhson (Writer, Plan Bea)
